Gail Hammer, Professional Photographer

Gail Hammer moved from Montreal in 1982 and now resides in Toronto with her husband and a black German Shepherd named Sheba; both her children live and work nearby. She has been a photographer for over 25 years and is a graduate of Ryerson's Photographic Arts program. Gail has won a number of awards for her work, including First Prize in the "Places" category in the Toronto Star annual photography competition in 1995, and Second Prize in Photo Life Magazine's "Darkroom Contest". Currently she continues photographing weddings, people, children, animals and landscapes and loves every minute of it.

"Not surprisingly, many people do not like being photographed - they feel shy and self-conscious. I try and make the photo sessions relaxed, down to earth and fun. Being in a familiar environment or loved location helps everyone enjoy the session. I encourage my clients and especially the children to bring a favourite possession to have with them in the photograph. Doing so not only helps people feel more comfortable, but also adds a nostalgic touch. The best thing about a photograph is the meaning and memories attached to that particular time in your life."
